What's New at Bharathidasan University?

The Bharathidasan University 2023 admissions will soon begin. For the MBA programme, the university accepts a variety of entrance exams, including TANCET, GATE, GMAT, CAT, and MAT. The TANCET 2023 schedule was released earlier but has been postponed. Anna University will open the TANCET 2023 registration window online. Candidates can expect the release of the TANCET 2023 application form in the last week of December. Although merit-based admission is necessary for the MPhil programme, students must have a passing score on the UGC NET/SET exam in order to be admitted to the PhD programme.

Bharathidasan University was founded in February 1982 and was renamed after Tamil Poet - Bharathidasan (1891-1964). The university's motto, "We will create a brave new world," is based on the words of Bharathidasan's poem. The university strives to be true to such a vision by building a bold new world of educational innovation for social change in the region. The university's main campus was originally located on an area of more than 1000 hectares in Palkalaiperur. As per the NIRF Ranking 2022, Bharathidasan University has secured an overall ranking of 82 and the university ranking of 57.

However, as the years went by, the South Campus in Palkalaiperur and the existing infrastructure were donated to the newly launched Anna University of Technology. The university is recognised by UGC, AIU and has been approved by AICTE. It has been accredited with an “A+” grade by NAAC. Also, the university has a downtown campus in Khajamalai, home to the “Autonomous Post-Graduate Centre” of the University of Madras in Tiruchirappalli.

Among the academic units of the Bharathidasan University campus are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Basic Medical Science, Geosciences, Social Sciences, Marine Science, and Language departments. In addition, the campus also has a central library, university informatics centre, hostels, staff quarters, health centre, canteen, and more. The downtown campus consists of the Departments of Social Development, Computer Science, the Hearing Centre, the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (Former UGC-Academic Staff College), and others. Apart from this, the Bharathidasan Institute of Management, best known for BIM (considered one of the best business schools in the country), is located within the BHEL buildings, a government sector operating in Thiruverumbur. The university has 4 faculties, 16 schools, 37 departments, and 29 specialised research institutes.

263 faculty members are serving 2564 students and scholars at the university. With 151 programmes, including 40 PG programmes in M.A., M.Sc., and M.Tech etc. the Bharathidasan University courses are very popular among students. The above programmes are conducted under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in semesters: 31 M.Phil., 33 PhD, 19 PG Diploma, 11 Diploma, and 10 certificates. The staff capacity of the university is 457. In addition to the standard teaching programmes in Departments and schools, the university offers 15 UG and 26 PG programmes under its Long Teaching Programme. The placement cell of Bharathidasan University assists the students throughout the year to perform better in the recruitment drives. Some of the major participating recruiters are LIC, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI Life and more.

• Post-matric scholarship: Bharathiar University scholarships for post-matriculation are available to BC MBC students who have attained a minimum attendance rate of 75% and whose family income does not exceed 1 lakh per year.
• Special loan scholarship: This scholarship is offered to SC and ST students who are residing in the university's dorms and whose family income does not exceed $50,000.
• Scholarship offered by the Indian Government: To be eligible, parents in the SC and ST categories must have yearly incomes of no more than Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 1,08,000, respectively. Besides this students must have completed a minimum of 75% of their attendance. 

Bharathidasan University courses are offered at UG, PG and doctoral levels to interested candidates. Bharathidasan University courses are available in Arts, Science, Commerce, Business & Administration, Computer Science, Journalism, and other subjects. Admission to the BDU Tiruchirappalli courses is offered only after fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria for the chosen course. Some of the popular courses offered by the university are MBA and MCA. The duration of the courses differs for various courses at different levels as most of the bachelor's courses are offered for a duration of 3 years and PG courses are offered for 2 years.
